ways of seeing

Hi, today I'm going to talk about "ways of seeing" the tv program (and later book)  from 1974 Directed by John Berger: painter, writer and art critic.  In the program, John makes a critical reflection on how our ways of seeing affect our way of interpreting. The series has four chapters, each dealing with an aspect about the interpretation of oil painting: the sense of property, the female role as a pictorial object, the relationship between painting and advertising and the transformation of the meaning of the work original in the framework of its multiple reproductions. In my opinion, this program (or text) is ideal for those starting out in the world of art theory and history because it exposes subjects in a didactic and engaging way, it is a great invitation to think about how our context  influences how we see and live art in the era of technical reproducibility and mass societies.
PD: I think all the chapters are subtitled on YouTube in case you want to see them!
